Bodycam footage shows the moment a cop in Ogden, New York, climbed onto dangerously thin ice to rescue a trapped dog.
Around 2 a.m., Sgt. Travis Gray, who has been with Ogden Police Department since 2011, responded to a 911 call about a barking dog that sounded like it was in distress.
Sgt. Gray located the animal in the canal and summoned firefighters to the scene. However, he quickly realized the dog was in immediate danger and, “at great risk to himself,” pulled the cold, exhausted pup from the water single-handedly.
Sgt. Gray then took the animal to Gates EMS, “and they were nice enough to assist us with some blankets to warm up the dog,” said Ogden Police Chief Christopher Mears. “As soon as he was warmed up, he was fine.”
The dog was taken to the Sweden Animal Shelter, and authorities found its owner.
