Woman left with facial paralysis and unable to smile after her colleague put her in a choke hold until she passed out

A bar manager has won more than £6,000 compensation for unfair dismissal following an incident at a Christmas party where a chef placed her in a headlock.

Molly Phillips, 24, blacked out after being held around her neck by chef Nathan Webb at their festive party in December 2017 and only realised exactly what happened when she found a CCTV video of the choking. Miss Phillips went to hospital to get checked for a suspected stroke and she had no recollection of what happened. A tribunal was told Miss Phillips checked the CCTV of the Cameo Club in Roath, Cardiff, days later and saw herself being strangled.

Footage shows burly American Football player Mr Webb, 33, holding Miss Phillips around the neck until her hands go limp. When he eventually releases her Miss Phillips collapses on the floor and is attended to by other workers.

She told company directors about the attack on New Year’s Day but claims they ‘dismissed’ her complaints and carried on employing Mr Webb. Miss Phillips brought an unfair dismissal claim against Pontcanna Pub Company Ltd saying she felt unsafe and had to resign.
