Arsonist trying to torch farm sets his hands on fire

This is the moment an amateurish arsonist attempts to set a building on fire but gets catches his hands in the blaze. Dramatic CCTV footage released by the police shows the moment the fire starter targets a former farm in Gateshead.

But as well as setting the building ablaze he also sets fire to his hands and can be seen desperately trying to extinguish the flames as he runs away. The attack took place between 10.30pm and 11pm at what is known locally as Norman’s Riding Poultry Farm on Garesfield Lane in Winlaton but was not discovered by the owners until the following day. Northumbria Police have said nobody was injured at the site, which now operates as a workshop, but it did cause significant damage.



The footage shows a man running towards the farm from a parked car before pouring an unknown substance onto the door of a workshop. He then sets light to the door, and some debris on the floor, before accidentally catching fire himself and fleeing the scene.



Investigating officer PC Zoe Walton believes that the man responsible for the arson could have suffered burns as a result of his mishap.
