Moment woman forced to fight off brazen carjackers in broad daylight

Authorities in Detroit are searching for a suspect involved in an attempted carjacking of a 58-year-old woman earlier in the month. The woman was in her car on March 15 outside of the Citizens Bank on the 700 block of Woodward, when the incident took place.

Newly-released footage shows the victim sitting in her car before a man opens the driver’s side door and appears to shove her to the passenger side of the vehicle. Police indicate that the woman fought back as the suspect tried pushing her into the seat, the Detroit News reports.

Footage shows the car roll into another vehicle as the suspect and the woman duke it out inside. Several people can be seen rushing to assist the woman, who is being pulled out of the car by the suspect. But soon the suspect is overwhelmed by the commotion and he flees the scene.

Police are searching for the man described as being 6ft and 200lbs. He wore a black and gray plaid coat along with a black hood. Those who may know the suspect or knows his whereabouts, are asked to contact the Detroit Police CATS Unit at (313) 596-2555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
