Here are the obstacles rescuers faced trying to extract the 12 boys and their football coach from Tham Luang cave in Chiang Rai. The huge Tham Luang Nang Non cave in Chiang Rai province stretches under a mountainside for up to 6 miles. Channel NewsAsia’s Glenda Chong explains the obstacle.

Stranded within a complex network of caves, the Thai youth football team, aged between 11 and 16, had been exploring the caverns when rising water trapped them. It took a team of British and Thai divers nine days of searching to discover the trapped boys.

All 12 members of the Wild Boards youth soccer team, along with their coach, 25, have been rescued from the flooded cave where they had been trapped for more than two weeks.
