A plane has crash landed into the ocean around the tiny pacific island nation of Micronesia. Miraculously, all 47 passengers and crew survived after the pilot missed the runway on the island of Weno, north west of Papua New Guinea.
The airliner missed it’s intended landing and ended up about 160 metres away from the runway in the water. The passengers managed to escape from the plane with some getting out onto the wings, locals arrived shortly after on small boats to assist with the rescue operation.
The Air Niugini plane was travelling between the two Micronesia airports of Pohnpei and Chuuk, where it was due to stop before continuing on the way to the Papuan capital, Port Moresby.
Some members of the crew and passengers on board have been taken to a local hospital for treatment and are undergoing checks, however there have been no reports of serious injuries thus far.
