“Unbelievable” in the sense of “we triple checked to make sure this footage isn’t fake.” But no, parallel landings really are a thing at the San Francisco Airport.
The two planes approach the parallel runaways, 750 feet apart, at San Francisco Airport at almost the exact same speed. Dropping down over the San Francisco Bay, the airplanes manage to touch down in perfect harmony – much to the delight and wonder of those on board.
The California airport has become famous for landings which you might associate more with daredevils like the Blue Angels or Red Arrows. However, such synchronised landings – although stunning – are rare because of the risk associated with them. One pilot said the parallel landings increased the threat of engine blow-out.
This time around both planes were thankfully successful during the landing.
