Armed police use baton gun to shoot thug waving samurai sword

Shocking footage shows the moment armed police used a baton gun to take down a man waving a samurai sword on a busy street. John Taylor was seen waving a giant knife outside shops in Balisdon, Essex, on Saturday.

The 50-year-old pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on November 12, and is due to be sentenced on December 10. His appearance in court comes after London’s murder rate in 2018 increased beyond the grizzly 118 tally for the year before – with still one month to go before the end of the year.

It also follows six days of violence and bloodshed, from October 31, when five young men were stabbed to death on the streets of South London. Police in Essex shot Taylor with a baton gun, which fires circular, non-lethal plastic rounds, following a stand-off in front of anxious shoppers at around 2.30pm.

He was filmed as he unsheathed the knife while police approached. The officers urged him to drop the weapon, only firing as he stood, arms wide, taunting them with it. Dramatic pictures show the man on the floor after being taken down, and police picking up the sword.
