Four people were injured when a hoarding collapsed on them outside a shopping mall in north-east China. The massive wooden signboard was torn off by strong winds at about 10am today at Yaxiya Department Store in Changchun, capital of Jilin province.
Among those hurt, three people suffered minor injuries and one suffered a fractured ankle, Chinese media reported. Shocking footage of the incident shows the entire signboard breaking off without warning and plummeting onto the group of pedestrians. Passers-by and police officers rushed to life the signboard off those trapped.
The victims were immediately taken to Jilin People’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Two of them have been discharged, according to Jilin Television. According to the report, the hoarding is erected around the shop to keep the site secure during constructions works.
The Jilin Weather Bureau issued a blue gale alert at 7:10am this morning, the lowest in its four-tiered system. Authorities are investigating the incident.
