Police officers arrested a man after he spent his New Year’s Eve dumpster diving in an unsuccessful attempt to avoid being arrested.

Deputies from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said the incident began at around 9.30 pm when officers saw a vehicle speeding and continuing to speed when a traffic stop was attempted.

A police helicopter followed the suspect as he drove from Daytona Beach to South Daytona before he eventually stopped the car to get out and run.

Footage shared to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page shows the suspect, 23-year-old Treshawn Lovett, getting out of the car and climbing into a dumpster in a nearby parking lot.

Lovett was arrested on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and driving with a suspended license.
